The History of Gumby's

Chance Hippler and Jeff O’Brien founded Gumby’s Pizza in 1985 in Gainesville, FL. Both were fraternity brothers at the University of Florida. They somehow convinced their parents to let them drop out for a semester to pursue their dream. They never looked back.

Starting out in a $400 a month former bakery, the two worked their dream into a multi-million dollar venture. Gumby’s now operates in 13 states and employs over two thousand (2,000) people.

Gumby’s Pizza stores offer pizza, hot sub sandwiches, salads, Pokey Stix, Pepperoni Rolls, and buffalo wings for carryout and delivery. Pizza is the nation’s second largest and fastest growing food franchise business. Gumby’s Pizza® is taking advantage of that growth and seeking new locations throughout the United States.

Currently Gumby’s Pizza® locations are in operation in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, and are rapidly expanding into other areas.

To help insure their success, Gumby’s Pizza® franchisees are well trained and supported by our Franchise Department. Gumby’s Pizza has refined the Gumby’s Pizza ® system of store operations to make sure no detail is overlooked. In addition to store operations, franchisees are trained in each aspect of operating their business, including marketing, advertising and administration. Gumby’s Pizza® franchisees are in business for themselves, but not by themselves.
